LOS ALTOS HILLS, CA - Chris Esparza of the San Francisco squad finished strong in the Foothill Circuit race with a winning sprint finish in a field of 56 Elite 4 racers. Finishing 7th was teammate and lead out man, Jack Schluckbier.
The race started out with a mild pace and after a few laps the breakaway attempts started to form. There were a few that had potential, but the field was relentless and quick to pull the riders back. Chris and Jack managed to stay near the front for the majority of the race as they took turns pulling each other forward. With 5 laps left to go the field started to get anxious and a bit reckless, which lead Chris and Jack to the outside of the pack. Moving to the outside meant having to work a bit harder, but also provided a way out from the chaos that was brewing. Heading into the last straight teams started to take form for the sprint. Jack helped pull Chris to the front and started the Audi team lead out. At the start of the 150-meter uphill finish, Chris took the slingshot from Jack and finished the sprint with a win.
